Dear Sirs,
We are Burma’s Chinese.
We love the Union of Burma, we love all nationalities of Burma. Standing together through thick and thin, we share our life together with all nationalities of Burma.
We believe that all nationalities, big or small, are equal.
We want to co-establish the Federal Union of Burma together with all nationalities of Burma based on equality, peace, fraternity, solidarity and mutual help.
As Burma’s Chinese, we treasure extremely the traditional “Swe Myo Paut Hpaw” blood relationship of Burma and China.
As Burma’s Chinese, we safeguard resolutely the brotherly friendship co-built by Premier U Nu and Premier Zhou Enlai during 1950-62.
As Burma’s Chinese, we donot allow any one, any organisation or any country to sabotage the "Swe Myo Paut Hpaw" blood relationship and brotherly friendship of Burma and China.
We Burma’s Chinese, following closely the democratic force ,the ethnic people's force of Burma and the concerned friends of Burma around the world, appeal herewith to you:
-concern the 55-year-long civil war of Burma,
-concern the long political stalemate of Burma,
-find ways and means to protect the people of Burma from extreme poverty, rapidly deteriorating situation ,poor health care, low education standards, environmental degradation and general feeling of extreme insecurity in the society.
The protracted armed conflict and the long political stalemate have brought Burma on the verge of devastation .Burma has since 20 years ago become one of the poorest country in the world.
The UN knows very well that Burma was the world-storehouse of rice and treasury during 1950-58. No countries of nowadays ASEAN nor Korea nor Taiwan was so rich and prosperous as Burma at that time.
The most important point is that Burma was then the most friendly and sincere neighbouring country of China in the region, even in the world as well.
Do not let Burma sink deeper! Do not let all nationalities of Burma suffer more! Burma shall no more be a country exporting refugee, illegal immigrants, narcotics, HIV/AIDS etc. which spoil not only the peace, stability and close cooperation of the South East Asia Region, but is also unfavourable for the peaceful rise and the good neighbourhood relations of China.
The former President of Czech Republic Vaclav Havel and Nobel Peace Laureate Archbishop Desmond M. Tutu have submitted to the UN Security Council a 70-page report focusing on our Burma’s problems and its needs and the way to solve them. In their report, these two outstanding and respected world figures have not in anyway cast a slur or blemish on any organization or country.
Respectively we appeal to you to refrain from exercising the veto power, hold high tolerance and justice, help as much as you can to realize the UN's proposal of the tri-partite political dialogue, i.e. the peaceful and useful negotiation among the military regime, the democratic force and the ethnic people's force of Burma. Let all political forces of Burma consider the situation of our country and respect the will of our people, let all our people and their parties struggle for establishing the genuine Federal Union of Burma based on equal rights for all nationalities , solidarity, peaceful and stable development.
Yours Respectfully,
Burma’s Chinese
