「情人眼裏出西施」曾(錚)解 A Beauty is Created by a Lover's Eyes
Why is there a saying in China that "a beauty is created by a lover's eyes (something similar to Beauty is in the eye of the beholder?)"? After seeing Simone Gao's post asking for her friends' opinion about whether her makeup was good enough without eyeshadow, I suddenly came to the following enlightenment:
People actually only notice (or care about) one's appearance when they meet or see someone for the first time. As time goes by, the importance of the appearance will gradually reduce, as one will adjust one's comprehensive "evaluation" of a person according to how he/she likes this person overall. At this point, the appearance is not that important.
In other words, "beauty" is a comprehensive concept or evaluation. Pretty faces alone are not good enough.
So for me, Simone Gao, a very talented TV hostess and journalist of New Tang Dynasty Television's "Zooming In"is extremely beautiful regardless whether she wears makeup or has put on eyeshadows.
