Ladies and gentlemen, it is an honor to speak to all of you today.
My name is Linda Wang, and I am a Christian of the Church of Almighty God. I am very grateful to Mr. Du for giving me this precious opportunity to speak. Today, I see people of all walks of life and from different countries fighting for the human rights of the North Korean people struggling under a dictatorial regime. I am very moved by this, and even more so I am happy for the people of North Korea. The Church of Almighty God and the Christians of the Church of Almighty God are also suffering similarly the ravages of persecution under the dictatorial regime of the Chinese Communist Party, and I will use this opportunity today to give everyone a basic introduction to this situation.
As everyone knows, since the Chinese Communist Party came to power in 1949, Christians and Catholics on the Chinese mainland have suffered complete suppression and persecution from the Chinese Communist government, and an untold number of Christians have faced arrest and imprisonment as well as torture and harsh treatment. Even foreign missionaries could not escape this misfortune. On the surface, the Chinese Communist Party promotes “freedom of religious belief,” when in fact they cruelly persecute Christians and ban the religion, with the goal of turning China into a region devoid of God and protecting the dictatorial regime of the Communist Party.
The Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of the Church of Almighty God has a long history. Since the return of the Lord Jesus—Almighty God—appeared in Mainland China to perform work in 1991, He has delivered utterances of more than two million words. When people of every sect and social status have seen the word of Almighty God, they believe it to be the truth and the voice of God and that it is expressed by God in the last days, and one after another they have turned toward Almighty God. Up to the present, there are at least four million Christians of the Church of Almighty God in mainland China. The speed of development of the Church of Almighty God astonished the Chinese Communist government and sent them into a panic. In order to ban the Church of Almighty God, the CCP has convened many meetings, formulated and released many secret documents, and adopted all kinds of despicable measures: They have used such media as television, radio, newspaper, and the internet to spread rumors and slander as well as to concoct falsehoods in order to frame and discredit the Church of Almighty God; they have entered households at will to perform searches, confiscate possessions and impose fines, and wantonly rake in money; they have used advanced technology to monitor, trace, and carry out dragnet manhunts and secret arrests, have extorted confessions through cruel punishments, and have even tormented and beaten people to death, with no one to answer for it.
According to incomplete statistics, in the short period of two years from 2011 to 2013 alone there were no fewer than 380,380 Christians of the Church of Almighty God who were arrested and imprisoned by the CCP on the Chinese mainland on charges of “subversion of state power,” “disturbing social order,” and other crimes, among whom 111,740 people were subject to illegal fines and extortion with a total monetary value of up to 243,613,000 RMB. 35,330 people had their houses searched, and at least a billion RMB (including funds donated to the Church as well as private assets) was forcibly confiscated by the Public Security Bureau or its subordinate units, or was simply pocketed by the CCP police. 43,640 people suffered all kinds of torture and mistreatment in impromptu courts. Some were sentenced to reeducation through labor; some suffered crippling injuries during their torture such that they were no longer able to provide for themselves; some were injected with drugs, causing mental breakdowns; some were simply tormented to death; and there are even more brothers and sisters whose whereabouts are still unaccounted for to this day, without any information about whether they are alive or dead….
With respect to all the Christians of the Church of Almighty God who have been arrested and persecuted, these grave statistics are just the tip of the iceberg. Even now, Christians of the Church of Almighty God in mainland China are still suffering the persecution of the Chinese Communist government. Now that we have been able to escape China, we feel fortunate, but at the same time still bear an even greater responsibility. We can cherish our freedom and tell our story, and it is our hope that more people will pay attention to the facts of the persecution suffered by the Christians of the Church of Almighty God.
