MTR Fare Rise – 2012
INTTRODUCTION
I am LIMBU Saran Kumar, Chairman of the Southern Democratic Alliance, the organization is focused on helping and providing assistance to the Ethnic Minorities, Elderly people and poor people of Hong Kong.
REMARKS
The public attention has been drawn by the MTR fare rise which will become effective from 1 June 2012 according to the information revealed by the television news.
The proposed fare rise of 5.4 percent of the MTR Corporation is absolutely unacceptable to the public and it signifies that such action of the Board of Directors of the MTR Corporation has been motivated by greed and rapacity without considering the factors affecting their plan to raise the fare. The Directors are considered to be totally insensitive and completely insensitive to people’s feelings.
The MTR Corporation has made 14 billion profits in last year 2011 and it should have been happy rather than dissatisfied considering that the current fares are being considered still too expensive. Services should be provided people but not to take too much money from the pockets of Hong Kong people.
We urge the government to persuade the MTR Corporation to revise its proposed fare before it becomes effective on 1 June 2012.
