Where is your Deutsche wisdom?
A friend of mine in Europe forwarded me a link to this article entitled "Celebrating Chinese New Year in Berlin" (http://tinyurl.com/yfdchnk)。Frankly speaking, after reading it, I can't believe my own eyes. I am a big fan and admirer of German people and culture, I have been to Germany twice (to Frankford and Munich), I like the works of Mozart, Bach, and Beethoven the most, and I often brag to my friends about my being born on the same day as Ludwig von Beethoven. In my classroom in American universities, German craft, German products, and German engineering, as an embodiment of Deutsche wisdom, are often the highlight of my International Marketing class.
The first time I heard about Deutsche Welle (DW) was when I read the report about a Chinese lady, last name Zhang, being a Communist Chinese agent in the Chinese Division of DW. This incident at the Chinese division of DW created a lasting impact on independent scholars and intellectuals worldwide. It is difficult for anyone to comprehend that the decedents of Bach and Beethoven, whose works are so divinely inspired and full of compassion and energy, could become so muddle-headed upon such an event where the right and wrong is so clearly delineated. The Zhang incident at DW could be thought of as an isolated event, but what is shown in this report about Chinese New Year celebration in Berlin points to a terrible trend, a trend that sends chills down the spins of freedom loving people all over the world.
I trust that German people, who know very well the distinction between East and West Germanys, are also keenly aware of the destruction of Communist rule on orthodox cultures and human nature. And there is no doubt Germans would love the traditional culture of China, but not the deviated culture of the Communist party. So when a regime, known for its "destroying the Confucianism" campaign, now wanting to open a Confucius Institute in Germany; and a regime that initiated the "Great Cultural Revolution", now wanting to act as the direct descendent of traditional Chinese culture and host some so called new year celebrations, are you using your clear minded Deutsche wisdom on this matter, my German friends?
This report by Adrienne Woltersdorf and Han Mingfang reminds me of the work of a rookie journalist of the Xinhua News Agency, a Chinese Communist mouthpiece, and never the insights of a free, independent journalist and intellectual of the West. Do you honestly believe that Chinese Embassy in Germany and its cultural affiliates, once the culprit of despising and destroying traditional Chinese culture so much, would now spend hundreds of thousands, even millions of Euros, just to "celebrate" Chinese New Year?
If the so called "celebration" is held inside the Chinese Embassy in Berlin, no one would really pay any attention. The fact that this so called “celebration”, full of Chinese Communist’s propaganda agenda and evil motives, is being held at the Rotes Rathaus, Red Town Hall of Berlin, this would be a shame to the Deutsche people. When then U. S. President John F. Kennedy told Germans that he was a Berliner, he brought with him the blessing of people of the free world. How could the Chinese officials, with blood of Chinese land owners, entrepreneurs, June 4th students, Falun Gong practitioners, and being the murder of organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners in China, become the honored guests of this sacred hall?
The condescending Chinese Communist officials in the Red Town Hall of Berlin are a reflection of the arrogance of former Communist leaders of East Germany. For current officials of unified, democratic Germany, would you remember the sufferings of the 200 million peasant immigrant workers in China who can't call the city where they work home, tens of millions of Falun Gong practitioners who are being persecuted, millions of underground Chinese Christians who can't practice their faith in public, and the prisoners of conscience such as Gao Zhisheng and Hu Jia, when you sip champagne and exchange toast with the Communist officials?
I am glad you like Chinese food: egg rolls, red bean paste buns, and sweet and sour pork rib. But as journalist you should also realize, the delicatessens would taste much better if there are no shadows of slave workers in Chinese labor camps in preparing those food item and utensils.
Happy Year of the Tiger!
